Forests

a) Location of Forests and Area under Afforestation

An area of 16,444 Acre is under forests, which is about 2.21% of the total area of the district. There is also linear plantation of 435 Km alongside the roads / rails / canals in the district. Trees grown in the area are Kau, Phalai, Kikar and Shisham.

b) Production of Timber and Firewood The production of Timber and Fire-Wood in the district during the period 2008-09 to 2010-11 is given in Table.

Poultry Population

As per Punjab Development Statistics 2011, there are 394 broiler and 99 layer poultry farms in the district having rearing capacity of 20,184 and 200 thousand birds per annum, respectively. There are also 6 breeding farms having rearing capacity of 207 thousand birds per annum.
